First Grade Math

Monday:  Clapping Addition-  Have the students do simple adding problems (they are allowed to use blocks)  Have students count silently the answer and the clap.

Tuesday:  No Class - PE 

Wednesday:  Continue Clapping Addition!

Thursday:  Handy Math Game!  Students will play Paper, Rock, Scissors-- But will put up fingers.  Then they have to add their hand and their partners hand together... and clap the answer.

Friday:  Continue with Handy Math Game!  Computer--

Second Grade Math

Monday:  "Go Fish"  We will play go fish but with variation.  Dealer will deal out seven playing cards from numbers ace (1) to 9.  The students will lay down pairs that add up to 10.  We will talk about how many different ways you can add to 10.  (Continue with sum of 11 and up to 18). 

Tuesday:  Continue to play "Go Fish."

Wednesday:  Addition Fact Flip!  (Its kind of like the card game War)  Students will work in pairs.  Students will flip over a card a the same time.  Then they add their card with nine.  The student with the highest sum will get all of the cards.

Thursday:  Continue with Addition Fact Flip!

Second Grade Reading

Start Theme 2

Monday:  Read "The Right Pet!" 

Tuesday:  (Phonics)  We will be talking about Vowel/Consonant/Vowel.  I will make short vowel words so the students can add an 'e' to the end to make VCV and change the word and the sound of the vowel.

Wednesday:  (Phonics)  We will talk about the two sounds of 'g'.  I will have the students help me make a chart writing words that have both sounds.  The students will have to figure out if the 'g' makes a 'j' or 'g' sounds and will decide where to place the word.

Thursday:  Comparing and Contrasting!  Students will make a Venn Diagram.  They will have to compare and contrast the stories "Pet Dreams" and "The Right Pet."

Friday:  Read "The Right Pet!"

Extra Activities for Home:  Continue Reading for the book club!

Monday:  No Class

Tuesday:  Compound Words!  We will make a chart.  In column one, we will put the first word of a compound word.  In column two, we will put the second word of the compound word.  In column three, we will write the compound word.  Students will have to read their compound words.  I will tell the students that if they are reading and they don't know a word, they can break down the word into part then they can read the word.

Read "Animals on the Loose!"  We will use the strategy of breaking down words that we don't know.  (Review base words from last week)  Activity card 3!

Back Pocket Idea-- I will have the students highlight compound words from the book, "I Want To Go Camping."

Wednesday:  Authors Point of View!  We will talk about the authors point of view was from the book "Animals on the Loose!"  We will talk about why it is important to know how the author feels about the subject they are writing about.  Next we will read the story "The Three Little Pigs."  We will talk about the authors point of view.

Back Pocket Idea-- I will have the students write about any topic that they wish.  When they finish writing, I will ask the students to share their writing with the other students.  The other students will have to guess how the author feels about this topic.

Thursday:  Readers Theatre!  "The True Story of the the Three Little Pigs!"  We will talk about the authors point of view and how it is different from "The Three Little Pigs."

Friday:  Authors Point of View!  (Review- Different points of view by authors of the three little pigs.)  Students will have to write a reflection on the two different authors points of view.  I will make sure that the students are using compound words in their reflection.

Monday:  Counting to 100- Making numbers with counters and dice-  making numbers on gumballs-  Making numbers different ways with two different colored counters

Tuesday:  No Class

Wednesday:  Write numbers on gumballs- make numbers with counters (review and numbers 10-25)  Counting to 100 (review)

Thursday:  REVIEW-  Making sure numbers are written correctly!

Friday:  Assessment-  See if students can recognize numbers 1-25 out of order and make sure numbers are written correctly.

Wednesday:  Two sounds for 'C'.  Find different sounds for 'c' in pocket chart and highlight 's' sound and underline 'k' sound.

Thursday:  Read Farmer Mike!  Make different words using different ending and beginnings.  Also, worked with sight words!

First Grade Math

Monday:  Review 100 counting and recognizing numbers up to 100 (pocket chart activities)!  We will talk about tens and how they are alike.  We will also do number flashcards and the students will have to say what number it is as fast as they can.  Assessment:  Write their numbers from one to 25!

Tuesday:  No Class - PE

Wednesday:  Review 100 counting!  We use the information that we learned about making tens and use it to help us write other numbers such as 35.  Start counting by 5s!

Monday:  Reread Cat's Birthday Surprise!  Comprehension cube!  We will also go over new sight words for the week.  They will have to read them and write them as fast as they can!

Tuesday:  Reread The Right Pet!  SHORT VOWEL SOUNDS!!!-- We will use words with short vowels to make new words with short vowels.  Review sight words!

Wednesday:  Review blends and short vowel sounds.  Find a short vowels in story and in pocket chart.  Students will then stretch out words with short vowel sounds that they don't know!

Monday:  Read Camping!  Students will write a sentence with double final consonants.  

Tuesday:  Read Lunch with Chopsticks!  We will talk about the different beginning blends and ending blends in the story.  Students will write a sentence with short vowels and blends.  PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES!!  3:30 - 9:00

Wednesday:  Readers Theatre-  Belling the Cat!  Students will have to write a sentence about another solution to the story problem.

Thursday:  Reread Lunch with Chopsticks!  We will talk about VCCV and use different blending routines to help students stretch out unfamiliar words.

Friday:  No School

 

Second Grade Math:

Monday:  Roll and Subtract!  Students will roll two dice, add them together then roll a third dice and subtract that number!

Tuesday:  Sidewalk Chalk Math!  Students will do math problems outside on the sidewalk using sidewalk chalk!

Wednesday:  Read Power Pitchers!  We will talk about different blends and how to make them plural or add any ending!  Student will get a chance to read and write them.  I will have the students retell the story!  They will have to put parts of the story in the correct sequence.  They will write a sentence that best describes the story!
